Whether you have questions about NSFA Exercise Theory, CECs, or First Aid requirements, we have answers for you. Let’s check out some of the most common NSFA certification questions that people ask.
NSFA Certification Questions
Do I Have to Take Exercise Theory for Certifications?
The plain answer is yes. Like with other NFLA provincial partners, you are required to take the Exercise Theory to obtain the different certifications, including:
- Group Exercise Leader
- Resistance Training Leader
- Aqua Fitness Leader
- Personal Trainer
- Older Adult Fitness Leader
- Indoor Cycling Exercise Leader
- Mind & Body Exercise Leader
Every fitness organization body will have different requirements. But to make sure that everyone meets the standard, everyone needs to show that they have the basic knowledge of topics, including exercise safety and movement mechanics.
However, if you have equivalent training elsewhere or a college degree, you might be able to transfer your credentials or bypass some process.
Will My NSFA Certification be Nationally or Internationally Recognized?
Yes. NSFA is a part of NFLA, a member of ICREPS. Nationally, your certifications will be valid anywhere in Canada. You will need to check where you are moving to and if you have to submit extra paperwork.
Internationally, Canada is a member of ICREPS, the world’s international fitness alliance. So if you happen to move overseas, you will be able to transfer your credentials to other member countries. Again, you will need to see the transfer protocols from the specific country.
How Many CECs Do I need Per Year?
5 CECS. If you are a personal trainer and course conductor, you will need 10.
Exam Questions
I Have Learning/Physical Disabilities. Are There Accommodations For My Exams?
Yes, NSFA will be able to help you. You will be given extra time to write. Your proctor can read questions aloud for you for those who have reading or visual difficulties. Just make sure that your proctor knows this in advance.
What If I Fail A Written Or Practical Exam?
Luckily for you, you will be given a chance to re-write in a few weeks for free. However, if you fail twice, you will need to pay $25 to cover the cost of the proctor. If, for some reason, you do not pass on your third try, you will probably need to retake the course or practicum. With our NSFA Exercise Theory course, you get a pass-fail guarantee. This means that if you fail, you can come back to us for free until you pass!
