One of the biggest and most enduring trends of our time is the focus amongst consumers of all ages on health and wellness. As a result, one of the industries with the best outlooks for the future is the fitness industry. Becoming a personal trainer in Ontario is one of the most common career paths in this industry – are you one of them?
Reasons to Become a Personal Trainer in Ontario
For many students, the thing that draws them to this profession is their passion for fitness, health, and helping others. While this is rewarding enough in and of itself, there are also many economic reasons to build a career in personal training.
1) Job Security
In HR, employment, and policy circles, one of the biggest talking points is the “4th Industrial Revolution”. Rapid technological advancements (particularly AI) have the ability to disrupt society and employment as we know it.
Luckily, there are still many jobs that require a human touch and aren’t likely to get automated away anytime soon. One such example is personal training (or any career in health and fitness for that matter).
2) High Income
Personal training pays surprisingly well for a job that doesn’t require any post-secondary or “formal” education. The average Personal Trainer salary in Ontario is $64,964, with $79,808 being on the higher end of the range.
Becoming a Personal Trainer in Ontario
The first step to becoming a personal trainer in Ontario is to study the Fitness Theory course. Then you must pass the Ontario Fitness Council (OFC) Fitness Theory exam. After that, you should register with them as a Fitness Leader.
From there, you can take different specializations. For example, Weight Training, Group Fitness, Aquafit, etc., based on what you want to specialize in as a trainer.
I hope this was able to help some of you get started on your journey. If you have any questions about the fitness industry or need help with your Exercise Fitness Theory exam, get in touch and let us know how we can help.
