With gyms around the country (and the world) closed for weeks now, how are we all to stay fit while in quarantine? Here are 5 ways you and your clients can stay fit during COVID-19:
Stick To A Schedule
When the world was operating normally, you likely had some set routine where you either worked out before or after work. Try to replicate that same routine as much as possible during the quarantine.
That means waking up at the same time, working during the same hours, and working out during the same hours. Keeping a routine like this will not only help you feel somewhat normal, it’ll help the time pass by much faster. Remember, it’s important to help your body stay fit during COVID-19!
Play Music While Working Out
Many people prefer to work out at a gym rather than at home. This is because having other people around can be motivating. But another hidden reason is music. There’s a ton of research behind this but listening to certain music can make people work out harder.
It doesn’t work for everyone but I recommend you try it. Test it out and see what works best for you.
Grease The Groove
If you’re unable to block off 30-120 minutes to work out, try a strategy called greasing the groove. This involves fitting in a few reps of an exercise whenever you can.
Say for example you have a pull-up bar set up in the kitchen. Every time you walk by for a drink of water, do a few reps on the pull-up bar. It’s important that you don’t max out your reps – just do half of what you can normally do.
Greasing the groove is said to increase your neurological pathways and increase your strength. Over time, you’ll get better at that exercise.
Work on Flexibility and Rehab
Do you want to get more flexible? Do you have rehab/injury prevention exercises you were prescribed by your physiotherapist but never did? Now’s the time.
While (most of us) can’t be lifting heavy weights at home, we can all take the time to work on weaknesses and other things we maybe didn’t have time for before.
Virtual Classes
If you REALLY can’t work out at home on your own, try joining a virtual class. Many gyms, yoga studios, etc. are live-streaming their classes on Zoom. Joining virtual workout classes is a great way to get motivated and stay connected with your friends and gym mates. The best part? It keeps you fit during COVID-19!
