In BC, the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) is the exclusive provider of the National Fitness Leadership Alliance (NFLA) Performance Standards. These standards are the highest in Canada so meeting these standards means that your BCRPA registration will be recognized across Canada. We’ll take you through the steps in becoming a BCRPA certified professional.
There are a lot of different streams and specializations available later on but to get started with your Fitness Leader registration, it’s a simple 4 step process:
Step 1) Take the online Fitness Theory Course
Step 2) Write & Pass the Fitness Theory Exam
Step 3) Complete the Basic CPR First Aid Course
Step 4) Submit Documentation & Register with BCRPA (a $105 Fee)
There’s a lot more you can do after getting your Fitness Leader registration but this is the first step.
Other Provinces
If you are from another province, the process is exactly the same. You need to study for and pass the Fitness Theory Exam (in certain provinces, this is called Exercise Theory). Once you’ve passed, get your Basic CPR & First Aid course, and register with your provincial NFLA affiliate.
If you need help with this step, don’t hesitate to reach out. Whether you want to become BCRPA certified or we would be happy to guide you through this process.
