If you don’t already know, the BCRPA Fitness Theory exam has 60 multiple-choice questions that you must finish in 60 minutes.  This time limit is pretty short, so it pays to know the different types of questions you would be facing – you want to be ready to answer them quickly. The BCRPA Fitness Theory questions consist of 2 primary types: memory and scenario.

Fitness Theory: Memory Questions

These questions are testing your knowledge of certain facts, terms, or concepts in the course.  For example, they might ask you which muscle is responsible for extending the leg. In other words, extending the knee joint.

They might ask you this directly (ie. which muscle is responsible for extending the leg?).  They might ask you indirectly (ie. the muscle that extends the leg is called the…).  Or they might ask you for the “best answer” (ie. which exercise or movement is most effective at strengthening the gluteus maximus)

Scenario Questions

These types of questions will test your ability to apply the concepts you learnt to real-life situations.  These questions are typically the most difficult for people to answer. Why? It requires deep knowledge of the concept being tested.
