BCRPA stands for British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association.  While they are responsible for many things, what most of us are interested in as fitness professionals, is the BCRPA Fitness Registration Program.

In 1984, the BCRPA Fitness Registration Program was created to set a standard for fitness professionals in BC and regulate fitness professionals in BC.

How to Become BCRPA Registered

There are roughly 7 steps to becoming a registered Fitness Leader.

  1. Register for and study the FHP Fitness Theory online course
  2. Register for and pass the Fitness Theory exam
  3. Within 1 year of passing the Fitness Theory exam, you should register for and complete an approved Specialty Module like group fitness, aquatic fitness, yoga fitness, pilates fitness, or weight training (a prerequisite for personal training)
  4. Complete an 8-hour Practicum in your chosen Specialty Module
  5. Complete an Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE) in your chosen Specialty Module through a qualified ICE evaluator
  6. Get valid Insurance
  7. Register in your Specialty Module with the BCRPA

Now that you’ve completed the registration, you’re now a first-class fitness professional with credentials valid in BC and beyond.
