Want to know how you can become a certified personal trainer in Manitoba? This post will go over how you can get MFC Personal Training certification.
MFC Personal Training
For someone to certify as a personal trainer, they will have to undergo a few steps. This ensures that you have all the necessary knowledge to instruct and lead a training session as a fitness professional.
Step 1: MFC Exercise Theory
Exercise Theory is a prerequisite to the certifications, for example, personal training, resistance training, or pilates. Think of Exercise Theory as your basic foundation. A pass means that you are ready to take the next step to become a fitness professional. Why does it matter whether you take Exercise Theory or not? Well, imagine trying to do calculus without any basic knowledge of algebra or trigonometry. You can expect to struggle because of a lack of basic understanding of math. The same applies to the Exercise Theory. If you have some experience with fitness and health, you will have an easier time taking the exam. Courses are available to take on the MFC website, but check out our Exercise Theory practice questions if you could use supplemental materials. With over 600 practice questions and exams, you will be more than ready for the multiple-choice test.
Once you have taken your course, you will need to contact MFC to book an exam.
Step 2: Resistance Training
The next step is to take the Resistance Training course. This course covers designing and instructing resistance training programs in weight training settings or resistance training classes. Since you will likely use weights with your clients, knowing how to use the common workout equipment is essential.
Step 3: MFC Personal Training
Once you have passed your Resistance Training Module, you are finally ready to take the Personal Training course. Courses are offered through MFC and can be found on the MFC website. A personal training career enables you to work one-on-one with clients or in a group setting.
Scope of Practice for Personal Trainers
As a personal trainer, you are a fitness professional. This means that you will need to work within your scope of practice at all times to ensure safety for everyone. Somethings to keep in mind include:
- Applying the recommended guidelines for healthy individuals
- Making sure that your client sign an informed consent form and answers “No” to all of the PAR-Q+
- If clients is using PARmed-X form that has been rated by their physician, make sure that it is unrestricted or allows for progressive physical activity
- If at any point there are things that fall out of the scope of practice, you must refer to certified health professionals
