Did you know you could use your post-secondary education for BCRPA Fitness Leader certifications? This is if you have a degree related to health and fitness, such as physical education. You can apply for a course bypass, which lets you skip certain specialty module courses. From here, you can directly write the practical exam called ICE, which stands for the Instructor Competency Exam.

BCRPA Course Bypass

To qualify, the courses you took must cover components of the BCRPA course you are trying to bypass. This depends on the course syllabus and your transcript. Whether it’s approved or not depends on a case-by-case basis. For example, if you performed poorly on a weight training course, you may not be able to bypass the course.

To apply, you’ll need to complete and submit the Course Bypass Application Form. You will also need the unofficial transcripts and the course syllabus for the courses you are applying for the bypass.

BCRPA will then review it to determine if the education you’ve received in the past is equivalent.  If you are approved, you’ll receive a letter outlining the next steps to follow.

Next Steps

The course bypass lets you skip the course. However, you’ll still need to pass the relevant exam or practical evaluation.  As a result, you may still need to review the materials again to refresh your memory.

You can either dig up your old university notes and review those or enroll in our Fitness Certification courses. It has relevant information covered in the exams you’ll be required to take.  Students who have been approved for a course bypass are eligible for discounts on all of our programs – contact us to see if you’re eligible.

Even if you don’t have any relevant or can’t apply for post-secondary education,  you can still bypass certain BCRPA courses. This is if you have relevant certification in another jurisdiction recognized by the BCRPA.  We’ll discuss that in the next and final article of this series.
